The Grandstream GDS3712 video intercom keeps the single-button simplicity of an audio door station while adding a 2-megapixel camera, so a visitor is seen as well as heard, without a keypad or card reader to manage. The 1/2.7-inch sensor delivers 1920×1080 video at up to 30fps over H.264, with support for H.264 High, Main, and Baseline profiles alongside Motion JPEG, wide dynamic range up to 120dB, and the same 180°(W) x 150°(H) lens used on the GDS3710, wide enough to frame a full-height view of whoever is standing at the door. The call button carries a blue LED backlight for visibility after dark, and the enclosure is IP66-rated with an IK10 impact rating, the highest vandal-resistance step in the family, so it takes the environmental exposure and physical knocks of an exterior door without a protective housing.

Two-way audio runs through a built-in microphone with acoustic echo cancellation, rated up to 1.5 meters, and a 2-watt HD loudspeaker rated up to 3 meters, with voice carried over G.711, G.722, and in-band or out-of-band DTMF via RFC2833 or SIP INFO. The camera streams at a bitrate of 128Kbps to 4Mbps, adjustable to network conditions, with a primary 1920×1080 feed for recording, a secondary 1280×720 stream sized for SIP video calls, and a third 320×240 stream for a smartphone app, so a receptionist, a recorder, and a guard’s phone can each pull the resolution they need from the same unit. Embedded motion detection with up to four configurable privacy masks lets an installer exclude a public footpath or a neighbouring window from what gets analysed and recorded, and event-triggered snapshots go out by email or FTP without pulling a full clip from an NVR. The unit connects over a 10M/100M network port with automatic speed detection, which simplifies wiring into whatever network infrastructure a site already has.

Where it fits on a Saudi site

A camera intercom without a keypad suits a location where visual verification matters but card-based entry does not: a villa gate, a small office front door, a meeting-room entrance, or a secondary building entrance staffed by a receptionist who releases the door by call rather than issuing cards. The wide dynamic range copes with strong backlighting from direct sun at a Gulf-facing entrance, and the -30°C to 60°C operating range with IP66 protection covers an uncovered outdoor mount through a Saudi summer. The IK10 rating, the toughest in the GDS37 family, makes it a reasonable choice for a location with a higher risk of impact or tampering where a camera unit is still needed.

Positioning against the GDS3710 and the rest of the family

The GDS3712 and GDS3710 share the same 2-megapixel sensor, lens, and video specification, so image quality is not the differentiator. The GDS3710 adds a numeric touchpad, an RFID reader, and Wiegand/RS485 expansion for card-based access; the GDS3712 drops all of that in favour of a single call button and a higher IK10 impact rating than the GDS3710’s. Against the audio-only GDS3702, the GDS3712 adds the camera the GDS3702 does not have while keeping the same single-button simplicity. Against the GDS3725 and GDS3727, it stays at 2 megapixels rather than the higher-resolution, AI-assisted sensor those models carry, and has no card reader of its own.

Deployment notes

On-wall dimensions are 173 x 80 x 36 mm and the in-wall cut-out is 217 x 120 x 11.6 mm, matching the GDS3710’s footprint, with the in-wall mount kit sold separately. At 0.625 kg it is close in weight to its camera-equipped sibling. The enclosure supports an optional back reinforcing metal plate for higher-risk locations, and PoE (802.3af Class 3) over a single cable carries power, video, and the SIP connection together, with a 12VDC/1A adapter available as an alternative. The unit carries CE, FCC, IC, RCM, and UKCA compliance markings, with a storage temperature range of -35°C to 60°C and 10-90% non-condensing humidity tolerance, so it can sit in an ordinary project warehouse before it goes on the door.
