Overview
The Grandstream GRP2601W is the Wi-Fi configuration in the GRP26 essential IP phone series, adding single-band 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n/ax (Wi-Fi 6) connectivity to the same 2.41-inch LCD and two-SIP-account design as the rest of the family. It still ships with the 100-240V AC universal power adapter and a dual 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port for wired setup or fallback, but the Wi-Fi radio means the phone can be placed anywhere within range of an existing wireless network, without pulling a new Ethernet drop to the desk. That makes the GRP2601W the option for rooms added after the original cabling plan, temporary desks, or offices where running new cable is more disruptive than extending Wi-Fi coverage.
Call Handling and Audio on the Grandstream GRP2601W
Two SIP accounts split a personal extension from a shared or department line, with a 5-way conference and call waiting for internal coordination. The codec set covers G.711, G.729A/B, G.726, G.723.1 and iLBC for compatibility with established PBX trunks, plus G.722 wideband and Opus for HD audio where the far end supports it, carried by a full-duplex speakerphone. EHS-compatible headsets from Plantronics, Jabra, Sennheiser and similar brands connect directly to the phone. The reception and admin feature set is unchanged from the rest of the GRP26 line: hold, transfer, forward, call park and pickup, an XML/LDAP phonebook holding up to 2,000 entries, an 800-record call log, off-hook auto dial, auto answer, click-to-dial, flexible dial plans, hot-desking, and personalized ringtones with music on hold.
Where the Grandstream GRP2601W Fits in Saudi Deployments
Wi-Fi IP phones solve a specific problem in Saudi offices: a desk, meeting room or reception counter added after the building’s structured cabling was finished, where a technician would otherwise need to chase a new Ethernet run through finished ceilings or walls. That comes up often in leased office space in Riyadh and Jeddah where tenants reconfigure floor plans between lease terms, and in retail or showroom counters positioned for customer flow rather than for the nearest data point. Because the GRP2601W keeps its own wired Ethernet port alongside the Wi-Fi radio, IT can still connect it by cable during setup or troubleshooting and switch to wireless only once the desk location is final. Server redundancy and failover keep both SIP lines registered through brief network interruptions, which matters for reception seats that answer incoming calls all day.
Positioning Within the GRP26 Family
Against the standard GRP2601, which relies solely on wired Ethernet, the GRP2601W trades a slightly heavier reliance on network coverage for the freedom to place the phone away from a data outlet. Against the GRP2601P, which removes the power adapter in favor of PoE over Ethernet, the GRP2601W keeps the adapter but removes the Ethernet cable requirement instead — the two solve opposite constraints. Where an office has power everywhere but Ethernet only in fixed points, the GRP2601W is the natural fit; where it has PoE switch capacity everywhere but limited power outlets, the GRP2601P fits better; where both power and Ethernet are already at every desk, the plain GRP2601 is the simplest option.
Deployment Notes
Security matches the rest of the family: TLS 1.3 and SRTP/SDES-SRTP for encrypted signaling and media, 802.1X, and secure boot with dual firmware images and encrypted storage — relevant on a Wi-Fi phone where signaling travels over a shared wireless medium. Provisioning runs over FTP, TFTP, TFTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, GDMS or TR-069 with AES-encrypted XML configuration. Beyond the compliance marks shared across the GRP26 line, the GRP2601W carries wireless-specific certifications — ETSI EN 300 328 and EN 301 489-1/-17, plus UKCA — reflecting its radio module. Operating range is 0-40°C with -10 to 60°C storage and 10-90% non-condensing humidity. The unit weighs 651 g and the 810 g package includes the GRP2601W phone, a corded handset, a base stand, the universal power supply, a network cable and a quick installation guide, covering both wired and wireless setup out of the box.
