Overview
The Motorola R7 is the current flagship of the MOTOTRBO DMR portable line, built for sites where hearing and being heard is the hardest part of the job. An adaptive dual-microphone noise cancellation system and AI-trained noise suppression strip machinery roar out of transmissions, while intelligent audio and programmable loudness up to 107 phons push speech back through the din. The housing carries both IP68 — immersion to 2 metres for 2 hours — and IP66 against powerful water jets, on a MIL-STD 810-tested, disinfectant-resistant shell. Add a 2.4-inch colour display, full DTMF keypad, 1000 channels, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2 and multi-constellation GNSS, and the Motorola R7 covers operations that simpler portables cannot reach.
What the Motorola R7 does differently
The audio chain is the headline. Adaptive dual-microphone noise cancellation listens to the environment and subtracts it, AI-trained noise suppression distinguishes speech from background chaos, and intelligent audio adjusts output to the surroundings, with loudness programmable up to 107 phons so calls cut through steel fabrication shops, tarmacs and crowd noise. On the RF side the radio spans VHF 136-174 MHz, UHF 400-527 MHz and 800/900 MHz allocations (806-825, 851-870, 896-902 and 935-941 MHz), transmitting at 5 W on VHF, 4 W on UHF, 2.5 W on 800/900 MHz and 1 W on low power, with 12.5, 20 and 25 kHz channel spacing. It operates in digital and analogue signalling modes across 1000 channels, so mixed fleets migrate at their own pace.
The 2.4-inch QVGA colour display at 320 x 240 pixels shows up to ten lines of text, and the full DTMF keypad supports direct dialling and text entry. Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5.0 GHz with WPA3 security connects the radio to site networks, Bluetooth Core 5.2 pairs wireless audio accessories, and GNSS reception across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou gives the radio its own positioning for location-aware operation. For sensitive conversations, encryption options cover AES256 and ARC4. The radio runs on a 7.5 V nominal supply.
Batteries, size and carry
Four IMPRES Li-Ion packs tailor the radio to the shift: a slim 2200 mAh (PMNN4807), a 2850 mAh (PMNN4809), a 3200 mAh (PMNN4603) and a 3200 mAh HazLoc pack (PMNN4810). With the 3200 mAh battery on VHF, runtime reaches up to 29 hours digital and 22 hours analogue. Dimensions are 131.8 x 56 x 34.7 mm with the slim or 2850 mAh pack and 131.8 x 56 x 40.7 mm with the 3200 mAh pack; weight runs 316 g, 333 g and 366 g respectively, so the slim pack suits all-day belt carry while the largest pack favours long shifts away from chargers.
Where it fits in Saudi operations
The R7 answers the Kingdom’s harshest radio environments: petrochemical and energy facilities where a UL TIA-4950 HazLoc option (to ANSI/TIA-4950 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.157-92, with the approved battery) serves classified areas; healthcare and food-processing sites that disinfect equipment daily and need a housing built to resist it; airports, rail projects and mega-events where noise suppression keeps control rooms intelligible; and security operations that use GNSS positioning to account for patrols across sprawling sites.
Position within the Motorola DMR family
The DP4400e and DP4800e carry the proven DP4000e formula — the first a simple no-keypad unit for press-and-talk crews, the second a full-keypad radio with text messaging for supervisors. The Motorola R7 is the step to the current generation: stronger noise suppression, dual IP66/IP68 protection, built-in wireless connectivity and positioning, and a HazLoc option. Fleets standardising for the long term, or fighting noise and coverage problems the older series cannot solve, should start here.
Deployment notes
Choose the battery first: classified areas require the HazLoc pack and the matching approved configuration, while the slim pack keeps weight down for customer-facing staff. Match channels to the 12.5, 20 or 25 kHz plan your licence specifies across the VHF, UHF or 800/900 MHz ranges your site uses. Where voice privacy matters, enable AES256 encryption fleet-wide rather than unit by unit. And because the radio carries Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plan accessory pairing and network access as part of rollout rather than after it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Motorola R7 better in noisy environments?
Adaptive dual-microphone noise cancellation, AI-trained noise suppression and intelligent audio with loudness programmable up to 107 phons keep speech intelligible around heavy machinery.
Is there a version for hazardous areas?
Yes. A UL TIA-4950 HazLoc option (ANSI/TIA-4950 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.157-92) is available with the approved PMNN4810 battery.
What wireless connectivity does it include?
Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5.0 GHz with WPA3 security, Bluetooth Core 5.2, and GNSS reception across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 29 hours digital and 22 hours analogue on VHF with the 3200 mAh pack; a slim 2200 mAh option reduces carry weight.
How well is it protected against water and dust?
It carries IP68 (immersion to 2 metres for 2 hours) and IP66 against powerful water jets, on a MIL-STD 810-tested housing.
